MAJOR UPDATE: The Switch from Clickteam Fusion 2.5 to Unity to Unreal Engine!
Wow, that's a mouthful!
So, you may be interested in what we have done within the past few months! We promised a full redesign for Lights Out, but holy mother-of-lord, have we done more than just a redesign!
SWITCHING TO UNREAL ENGINE
So, we decided we wanted to switch to the Unity game engine, for it could increase the amount of possibilities for Lights Out, which include more graphical advancements, better networking*, etc. After experimenting a little bit, we soon realized Unity may not be the best game engine for Lights Out (no hate for Unity though! It is still a great game engine!) so we decided to switch to Unreal Engine, and it may be for the better! A lot more possibilities have been opened to us, and we hope that Unreal Engine delivers a better product than what Clickteam Fusion 2.5 could have delivered!
*The networking in the Clickteam Fusion 2.5 version of Lights Out was made with the Lacewing Extension by Darkwire Software, and sometimes made it so that people disconnect without actually disconnecting in the game, the monster kills someone on their screen, but for the person who they killed, they are still alive, etc. and this would cause so many problems, so we thought, a game engine that was actually made to be compatible with networking and stuff, and doesn't require any sources other than the company that made the game engine, would be able to actually work with the type of game we are trying to make, so we decided to switch to the game engine we have switched to.
STEAM PLANS
The original Lights Out was made only by DanteG, and was made as a fun little project that would be able to be played with your friends, but he felt it could become something bigger, so he promised that he would put it on steam for $1. This was because the game wasn't at a very good state, and his friend made him realize that, so he decided to add more content to the game. He hoped that the steam release would include a lot of content, for only a dollar! The steam release would have included 3 scientists, 3 monsters and 3 maps, with more to come as DLC or something like that. But since we have switched to Unreal Engine, the quality of the game will be a lot better than we expected, so we have decided to keep the release with 3 scientists, 3 monsters and 3 maps, but with the increased quality, not only with the graphics and the gameplay, but also with the networking, we decided to increase the game's price. We though, around $10 or less (or maybe more, but that will be if we increase the amount of content the launch version will have (and no, we will not increase the price once we add more maps and stuff)) so that it is mostly cheap, but we will get enough money to continue adding more content to the game. The steam version will also have achievements, trading cards, etc. in order to keep players coming back! We want to create a game that will be enjoyable, but also able to be played again, and still enjoyable.
So, this is all we have so far! Sorry for no teasers, or anything, but we plan on adding screenshots and stuff like that to make some hype for the Unreal Engine version of Lights Out! The Clickteam Fusion 2.5 version will be removed once we feel like the Unreal Engine version is ready to be released. This is to allow people to play Lights Out as it is, while we work on a new and improved version of the game!
That's all, folks!
